Our focus is to protect and uphold the rights of our community’s children.
We advocate on behalf of our children, who have been abused, neglected, abandoned or orphaned, to place them in an environment in which both their physical and emotional wellbeing is developed so as to give these children an opportunity for a better future.
Our History
The Greater Benoni Child Welfare has been in existence since the 1920’s.
The offices were originally in Harpur Avenue, Benoni. The Society moved into the current premises in Northmead, Benoni is 1983. Colin House, our Child & Youth Care Centre was opened in 1992 and extended in 2003 to cater for 20 children. Demand for services resulted in a permanent office being opened in Daveyton. Our caseload fluctuates between 1390 and 1450 families.
Our dynamic team is made up of Social Workers, Auxiliary Social Workers, Administration, House Mothers, General Workers , Management Committee Members and Volunteers.

We are a registered non profit ( NPO), non government organisation servicing the children of the Greater Benoni area. Our number is (NPO 009660).
Our Society has been approved as a public benefit organization (PBO) in terms of Section 30 of the Income Tax Act. Further, as a public benefit organization, we have been approved for purposes of section 18A(1)(a) of the Act and donations to our Society will be tax deductible in the hands of the donors in terms of and subject to the limitations prescribed in section 18A of the Act. Our PBO reference number is 930002952.
We are a BEE rated organisation (Level 4 Contributor) The racial distribution of our beneficiaries as at the end of May 2013 was:
96.72% African,
2.25% White,
0.61% Asian, and
0.42% Coloured.
To date, this has not varied significantly.
Corporate Governance
As an Organisation, we collaborate with Government as well as other non-government organisations in our area. We maintain high standards of governance and meet reporting obligations as set out by the relevant legislation, including full transparency in all financial matters and are audited annually by Baillie, Kosseff and Grobler Incorporated.
